Six-man football was developed in 1934 by Stephen Epler in Chester, Nebraska, as an alternative means for small high schools to field a football team during the Great Depression.

Chester is the home of Miss Nebraska 2017 – Allison Tietjen, who competed for the Miss America crown on September 10, 2017.
Chester is also known as “The Small Town with the Big Heart” due to the sad story of “Little Boy Blue“.
